Dan Morphy Auctions’ popular new series of Discovery Auctions continues with a Tuesday, April 20, 2010 event starting at 10 a.m. Eastern Time. The 590-lot auction includes a beautiful selection of antique advertising, highlighted by gasoline, tobacco and Coca-Cola related item, including desirable tip trays.
An extensive collection of tinplate dime registering banks will be offered. Among the rarest examples is a Jackie Robinson “Save and Win” dime bank, which features a full-length image of the legendary African-American baseball player.
As always, there will be toys of various types, including cast iron and tin, and with prized  selections from the Michael O’Hearn collection. A top lot is a boxed Marx Mechanical Station Wagon in a turquoise and faux-wood-paneled motif as seen on the “woodies” favored today by California’s surfers.
Many painted, figural cast-iron pieces will be offered, with the highlight being a subgrouping of Scottie-dog-related items. If you like doorstops, bottle openers, doorknockers or paperweights, you’ll love the variety and quality in this section of the sale, as most of the lots are in near-mint-plus condition.
More than 30 lots of beautiful, early graniteware in several colors and rare forms will be auctioned. Featured items include a red and white swirl frying pan and an American cobalt blue swirl dinner carrier.
Additional categories featured in the sale include paintings, clocks, Victorian art glass, jewelry and both paper money and coins.
