Morphy Auctions’ April 2016 Premier Automobilia and Petroliana Sales Event To Feature A Phenomenal Selection Of Extraordinary Signage, Globes, And Category Accessories.
This highly anticipated two-day auction is the third of four Morphy’s sales events featuring the world-class Kyle Moore collection.
Morphy Auctions, the finest auction destination for fresh to the market collections, is pumped to announce this almost 1,300-lot sale to be held on April 23rd-24th, 2016. This auction tailgates on the heels of the second Moore sale, held at Morphy’s in January 2016. This record breaking, standing room only event – more like a celebration – took the victory lap with sales topping $4.4 million. All lots from this April event are on display in Morphy’s Pennsylvania auction gallery and available for preview now.
This auction presents 650 lots of stunning and highly collectible vintage automobilia and petroliana advertising signage. Examples promoting national, regional, as well as little known brands are all on offer. Signs for tires and parts are well represented in this event’s inventory. Lot #845, a Kelly Tires With “Lotta Miles” Logo Sign, is certain to attract a-lotta interest. This 42″ diameter rarity features a beautiful young woman driver and is estimated at $60,000-80,000. The rubber hits the road with lot #844, a Wyeth Tires Porcelain Curved Sign, estimated at $20,000-30,000.
This example, with excellent gloss and color, is marked “Burdick, Beaver Falls, PA,” and shows a boy sitting in a pile of tires. And good things come in threes with lot #250, a Packard Service Genuine Parts Only Sign. This triangular shaped sign features radiator graphics and is estimated at $30,000-50,000.
Collectors will feel as if they’ve struck black gold with this auction’s great selection of signs for oils and lubricants. Many will be on the lookout for lot #141, a Very Rare Champlain Oil Products Porcelain Sign featuring a dignified and well-dressed man surveying the landscape. This round, 48″ diameter sign is estimated at $50,000-75,000. Sure to take off is lot #969, a Harbor Petroleum Products Sign with Seaplane graphics. This double-sided diecut sign has excellent gloss and color and is estimated at $40,000-60,000. And it’s the dawn of something very special with lot #21, a Sun-Rae Gasoline Motor Oil Oval Porcelain Sign, estimated at $25,000-50,000.
This auction offers enthusiasts a well-rounded collection of nearly 300 globes and lenses for their consideration. One highlight that is head and shoulders above the others is lot #513, a Chief Gasoline Milkglass Globe Body. This handsome example features striking black and red graphics of an Indian bust in profile and is estimated at $8,000-12,000.
This auction’s selection of oil cans and containers, as well as petroliana and automobilia themed ephemera, displays, clocks, and vintage neon, should get collector’s engines humming. One outstanding offering sure to light up the room is lot #284, a 1930’s “Get A Fisk” Tire Neon Spinner Clock, estimated at $6,000-9,000. This clock is 100% original, displayed inside an unused tire, and features the Fisk boy above the 12 on the neon clock. According to our cataloger,
“This is the rarest neon advertising clock known. It is impossible to improve upon the condition of this piece. The clock keeps great time, the neon lights up, and the spinner works perfectly.”
Dan Matthews, Division Head of Petroliana/Automobilia at Morphy Auctions shares, “This third of four sales events featuring the legendary Kyle Moore collection again presents enthusiasts with best-of-class selections of gas, oil, and automobile related collectibles. These Moore sales have been fabulously successful, with our recent January sale breaking two world records. Could this sale top even that? Given the festive and full house tradition of these gas and oil sales events, plan to come early and stay late!”
