Morphy Auctions, the finest auction destination for fresh to the market collections, is excited to announce this exciting sale to be held on February 27th and 28th, 2016 starting at 11am. The event includes many fine works from painters including Leon Bakst, Paulette Van Roekens, Vaclav Vytlacil, B.J.O. Nordfeldt, Martha Walter, John Grabach, John Sloan, and Ralph Fasanella, among many others. This auction also presents collectors a spectrum of exquisite artwork, jewelry, and fine antiques at a full range of price points.  All items from this sale are on display in Morphy’s auction gallery and available for preview now.

This event features over 150 lots of important 17th to 20th century European and American paintings, and reads like a “who’s who” of fine artists.  A grand slam highlight would include lot 221, Ralph Fasanella’s City Lot Game.  This 28” x 40” oil on canvas features an appealing scene of an urban pickup style baseball game.  It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the artist’s family.  And lot 881, B.J.O. Nordfeldt’s The Wedding Party, should be cause for celebration as well.   This 42” x 38” c. 1945 oil on canvas captures a charming nuptial party.  Both of these paintings are estimated at $20,000-30,000.

With over 600 spectacular lots of decorative items on offer, buyers with tastes from classical to contemporary will undoubtedly find many selections that call to them. Functional and ornamental treasures spanning three centuries – including lamps and glass, miniatures, fine silver, vases and pottery, clocks,  – will be on offer, with featured manufacturers including Haviland, Lenox, Meissen, Boehm, Royal Worcester, Orrefors, and Waylande Gregory, among many others.

Buyers don’t need a passport to appreciate lot 311, a circa 1650 Spanish Treasure Chest with an elaborate locking mechanism (estimated at $4,000-6,000) or lot 945, an ornate Chinese King Fisher Silver Headdress decorated with brass dragons, figures, and pom-poms, estimated at $3,000-5,000.   And lot 946, a 45″ long, 1971 Ferrari Daytona Bronze, takes the victory lap with its estimate of $8,000-12,000.

Important statues and figures also feature prominently in this event.  It is possible that buyers may come to blows over lot 448, a pair of Spelter Boxing Statues by Arthur Waagen (estimated at $2,000-4,000) or lot 516, a pair of 19th century Ebonized Wood Carvings of Men Kneeling, estimated at $4,000-8,000.

Fantastic furniture for every room in the house is a key category in this inclusive sale.  Over 50 lots of antique and period chairs, tables, vitrines, desks, sofas, consoles, armoires, other important statement pieces are on offer.  It’s safe to say the eagle has landed with lot 1249, a pair of 19th century Carved Wooden Tables.  Each table is 32″ tall and features a beautiful gilt eagle as its base.  Both tables are handsomely detailed with matching metal stars along their side edges.  Their provenance, in part, is told through their “Florian Papp Early American and English Antiques” labels affixed to the undersides of each.  This pair of eagle tables is certain to soar with its $5,000-10,000 estimate.

This sale is better than Breakfast at Tiffany’s with its amazing selection of almost 300 lots of fine and antique jewelry, watches, and loose gemstones.  Marvelous selections of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, pins, and watches for men and women are on offer, with many from famous makers including Judith Ripka, Tiffany, Cartier, Kieselstein Cord, Mauboussin, Patek Philippe, Rolex, Ebel, and others.  Jewelry collectors may want to color their worlds with lot 11, a stunning white gold ring featuring a diamond set within a circle of dramatic blue sapphires, or lot 817, a truly beautiful Victorian bracelet made from nine gold filigree, seed pearl, and luscious purple amethyst links.  These eye-candy treats are estimated at $2,000-4,000 and $1,500-2,500 respectively.
