This highly anticipated event includes a significant collection of time keeping tools, including outstanding selections of men’s and women’s watches, pocket watches, and freestanding clocks.

Denver, Pennsylvania, January 22, 2017 – Morphy Auctions, the finest auction destination for fresh to the market collections, is excited to announce this comprehensive sale to be held on February 23, 2018, beginning promptly at 9:00 AM EST.  A full range of collectible items from the most favored manufacturers – including Tiffany, Loetz, Amphora, Steuben, and Gorham –  are represented. This event also features robust selections of Victorian-era merchandise.  All items from this sale are on display in Morphy’s Denver auction gallery and available for preview now.

Let’s waste no time and jump right to this sale’s fantastic selections of pocket and pendant watches.  Up to the minute selections are available for both men and women.  Lot #260, a private label Patek Phillipe 18K gold triple date moon-phase repeater, is estimated at $35,000-45,000.  This handsome timepiece’s case is marked 750 with hallmarks, its dial is marked “48287,” and its movement – which is running and chiming correctly – is marked “Special” and “Bailey Banks & Biddle No. 48287 Philadelphia.”  Lot #199, a green enameled 18k gold pocket watch, is estimated at $2,5000-3,000.  This unmarked example features a beautifully decorated case featuring a distinctly art nouveau pattern of textured gold, ribbons, pendants, and a tassel. Lot #234, a circa 1890’s Volta Swiss 18K gold minute repeater pocket watch, is estimated at $3,000-5,000.  It features an enameled single sunk dial with black Arabic markers and sub seconds.  You can’t help but notice its gorgeous case which glows with hand engraved monograms to both outer covers; its inner dust cover is decorated with 8 coins and is marked, “No. 18930 Paris, Chicago and Geneve.” Lot #263, Patek Philippe & Co. triple signed pocket watch with its all original leather presentation box, is estimated at $2,500-$5,000.  And it’s easy to get tickled pink over lot #277, a women’s 18K gold and enamel Cartier pendant watch and chain, estimated at $15,000-25,000. This very feminine timepiece features guilloche detailing and is decorated with pink and white enameling, diamonds, and pearls; its dial sports engine turning, Arabic markers, and blue steel hands.

Victorian-era treasures, including match safes, inkwells, card cases, and lorgnettes have royal status in this exciting sale.  About forty fine examples of chatelaines – decorative belt style hooks that held everyday household helpers for women in the mid-19th century including scissors, watches, thimbles, and keys – are certain to work the crowd. Lot #382, a circa 1860 gold colored English chatelaine is estimated at $1,500-2,500.   Its top is decorated with a man and a woman in conversation and a large yellow stone. Its accessories include a wax seal, a watch key, and a hand holding a small embossed ornamental case with six additional instruments hidden within. And lot #383, 14K yellow gold chatelaine decorated with a pearl-topped crown and two enameled shields, is estimated at $2,000-3,000. Its tools include a wax seal, watch, and watch key. This stunning example includes its original fitted box.

Bronze statues, figures, and busts are other heavy metal favorites in this fine and decorative arts sale.  A top dog in this category would be lot #630, a bronze Great Dane sculpture, estimated at $5,000-10,000.  Titled “High Four,” this beautifully rendered piece by Louise Peterson portrays a seated Great Dane with his right paw in the air.  It includes a certificate of authenticity.  And two bronzes with motorcycle themes are the wheel-deal as well.  The first is lot #621, a large bronze bust of a motorcycle racer. It features the bike’s handlebar and racing number and is signed “Diosi.”  The second is lot #622, a full figure bronze motorcycle statue with great detailing.  You can almost feel the wind and speed zipping past the driver on this high-energy, signed example.  These two bronzes are each estimated at $4,000-6,000.

It’s easy to get hung up over the vast selections of fine paintings, prints, and sketches offered through this auction. Lot #606, R.D. Willard’s painting of riders and horses, is estimated at $3,000-5,000.  This signed, oil on canvas work measures 19” x 15” and depicts one horse jumping over a stream, another emerging from it, and a third in the background.  And lot #617, an Abner Zook 3-dimensional farm scene, is estimated at $4,000-8,000.  This highly detailed painting features an Amish farm in Lancaster, PA and comes to life with a Case tractor, hay wagon with horses, and Amish people with house and trees in the background.

This comprehensive sale comes full circle with amazing selections of coins, general antiques, glass, pottery, porcelain, silver, musical instruments, and other functional and decorative items.  Lot #55, a very rare 1860 $3 gold coin, is estimated at $6,000-7,000.  This fine example is rated PCGS MS 62 and is detailed with a profile of a bust of a crowned Lady Liberty on one side and a partial wreath of flowers, leaves, and a bow on the reverse.  And practice makes perfect with lot #738, an antique 4/4 violin estimated at $15,000-20,000.  This desirable instrument, repaired by N.N. Borisik, is labeled “Jacobus Stainer” and has very good quality and sound.

According to Dan Morphy, President of Morphy Auctions, “This fine and decorative arts sale presents a wonderful range of highly cured merchandise from a huge spectrum of categories.
